TELLING THE STORY OF JESUS IN ASIA

A Mission Conference
in honor of
Richie Fernando, SJ

to be given by
BISHOP LUIS ANTONIO TAGLE

on November 22, 2006, Wednesday
7:30 p.m.

Jaime Cardinal Sin Center
Loyola School of Theology
Ateneo de Manila University

This year, we mark the tenth death anniversary of Richard Michael “Richie”
Fernando, S.J. Five years after entering the Society of Jesus, Richie was
sent to Banteay Prieb, a Jesuit technical school for the handicapped not far
from Phnom Penh in Cambodia. On October 17, 1996, a troubled young man
threatened to throw a grenade into a classroom full of handicapped students.
Richie grabbed him from behind, but in the ensuing struggle, the grenade fell
and exploded, killing Richie almost instantly. Richie gave his life to save
others.

There is no better way to remember Richie than to promote what he felt he was
called to do. On November 22, 2006, Wednesday, 7:30 p.m., a conference on
mission and the Church in Asia will be given by Bishop Luis Antonio Tagle at
the Jaime Cardinal Sin Center, Loyola School of Theology, Ateneo de Manila
University. Taking off from his keynote address for the recently held Asian
Mission Congress in Chiang Mai, Thailand, Bishop Tagle will be giving us
points on telling the story of Jesus in Asia.

Registration is free.
