SITUATION REPORT

Monday, 6 November 2006

FOOTBRIDGE UPDATE: Meralco rescheduled the relocation of the 34.5 KV cables close to the west end of the footbridge. The inauguration of the footbridge tentatively set last Saturday, 4 November has also been postponed. The footbridge while substantially completed and useable can only be used after Meralco relocates these cables.

Pedestrians have to walk to Gate 1 of Miriam college where jeepneys wait for passengers. People have complained of the narrow section of the sidewalk over the creek between Miriam and Ateneo. Pedestrians going to the footbridge or coming from Ateneo risk being sideswiped by vehicles coming from Ateneo.

The pictures above show the path walk Miriam College constructed towards the footbridge. The arrow in the center picture points to the pedestrian gate to the sidewalk along Katipunan. Given the narrow section of the sidewalk, Miriam College is proposing the construction of a bridge to link the two campuses. The idea is to have another "Friendship Bridge" similar to the one near EAPI.

The idea has been suggested to Quezon City's Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS) officials.

NORTHWEST CARPARK: Disposal of debris (tree trunks and branches) from the last typhoon is labor intensive and expensive. They were temporarily dumped in the Northwest carpark. Rather than just dumping them, a win-win arrangement was made with a wood product manufacturing business that uses the tree trunks and branches as raw materials. The company offered to remove the debris and clear the carpark free of charge. Pictures below show the clearing operation that started 27 October and will go on before classes start in the 2nd semester.
