SITUATION REPORT

(Wednesday, 17 May 2006)

WATER: Completion of the cleaning of thirty-one (31) cisterns and overhead tanks has been delayed due to the rescheduling of the cleaning of EAPI's cistern and the request of the Residence Halls to include their cisterns. Potability tests will be conducted this week for those already cleaned and the complete test results will be released before the end of the month.

TRAFFIC: The Katipunan center island lamp post hit by the speeding car last Wednesday, 10 May 2006 was toppled by strong winds last Friday noon, 12 May. The lamp post (in front of Kenny Rogers & Prince David building) barely missed a southbound Toyota Lite Ace full of passengers when it fell on the road. This caused a minor traffic jam till the lamppost was moved to the center island as shown in the pictures below:

Motorists on campus are advised to always look at the right side mirror when entering Gate 3. Motorcyclist are notorious for taking the outer lane of the northbound lane near Gate 3. Accidents like what is shown below occurs frequently. Motorcyclist overtakes on the right instead of on the left is usually bumped by a vehicle entering Gate 3 without using the right turn signal.

Typhoon Damage on Campus:

Typhoon "Caloy" did minimal damage on campus. Only branches of a few small trees were blown down near the EAPI Hostels and at the back of the High School Covered Courts as shown in the pictures below. An overhead tank (right picture) from Loyola Grand Villa was damaged and landed on campus but otherwise, the typhoon skirted the campus.

Last Saturday, 13 May when typhoon "Caloy" was predicted to hit Metro Manila, the Quezon City government crew assigned to clear and clean creeks were busy working at the creek between Miriam College and Ateneo (left picture below). After the typhoon veered away, Physical Plant personnel (middle picture below) cleared the fallen tree branches. The grounds maintenance contractor also cleared the campus of fallen twigs and leaves (right picture below).

Below is the newly asphalted road from Fr. Masterson Drive to Central Carpark behind PLDT-CTC & JGSOM complex. Center and border lines will be painted when the area is comparatively unoccupied in the next two weeks.

Excavation work at the corner of Fr. Masterson Drive and Grade School Lane near Gate 2 was also completed over the weekend. Drainage pipes were installed and the road restored on the same weekend. Picture on the left below shows the restored road on Sunday. The picture on the right taken last Monday, shows the road with steel plates to allow vehicle access even if the concrete is not cured and ready for use.
