ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE FOR SOCIAL CHANGE (ESSC), a research institute based
in the Ateneo de Manila University campus, is seeking a GEOGRAPHIC
INFORMATION SYSTEM (GIS)/Graphic Support Specialist with the following
desired qualifications and skills:

 

Qualifications

 

1.	At least 1 to 2 years of working with GIS/mapping and utilizing GIS
software applications
2.	Working knowledge of ArcView 3 or ArcGIS software, ESRI software
(ArcView, ArcGIS, Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst, etc), other associated ESRI
products 
3.	Programming experience, such as Visual Basic, C++, Java, Avenue, and
HTML, would be beneficial but willingness to learn or expand on current
knowledge is essential
4.	Working knowledge of shapefile, coverage, geodatabase creation and
manipulation, georeferencing, raster manipulation, topology, drawing layout,
and good cartographic sense for map creation
5.	Working knowledge of databases (eg Microsoft Access), web page
design and graphics software (Corel Draw v.11.0, Adobe Photoshop)
6.	Preferably with working knowledge of other GIS/CAD software
(MapInfo, AutoCAD, GRASS GIS. etc)
7.	Experience with processing Global Positioning System (GPS) collected
data
8.	Graphic design experience in preparing digital maps and graphics as
related to environmental planning
9.	Possess a Bachelor's degree in a related field (geography, geology,
GIS, environmental sciences, civil engineering, planning, computer science,
surveying, mapping, or other related fields); a Master's degree preferred
but optional

 

Skills

 

1.	Strong science and math fundamentals
2.	Understanding of cartography and ability to create diagrams and maps
from rough sketches as necessary
3.	Understanding of map projections and demonstrated ability for
spatial orientation
4.	Ability to read and understand engineer and metric scale
5.	Ability to use, create, edit, calculate, and analyze data
effectively and prepare maps for reports and field purposes
6.	High level of computer literacy
7.	Ability to analyze data, problem solve, prioritize, and organize to
achieve work goals
8.	Good written and spoken English
9.	Good presentation skills, especially on paper - map design,
graphical communication, report writing
10.	Interest or experience of working in the environmental sciences
11.	Awareness of the natural hazards facing the Philippines
12.	Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn
13.	Strong personal communication skills, pro-active attitude, ability
to work on several projects at a time
