2006 Summer Seminar

“Emerging Paradigms in Comparative Southeast Asian History:  Memory/ies, 
Identity/ies, and Tragedy/ies in Contemporary Southeast Asian History”

Description
The Ateneo Center for Asian Studies and the Department of History of the 
Ateneo de Manila University will hold a seminar entitled “Emerging Paradigms 
in Comparative Southeast Asian History:  Memory/ies, Identity/ies, and 
Tragedy/ies in Contemporary Southeast Asian History” on 20 April -31 May 2006 
in the Loyola Heights, Quezon City campus.  The seminar aims to deepen and 
broaden our knowledge of contemporary Southeast Asia, addressing issues like 
the historical roots of Southern Thai ethnic and religious conflicts, the 
Chinese in Indonesian nationalism and the Khmer Rouge in Cambodian 
contemporary history.  The lectures will be delivered by the Thai, Indonesian 
and Cambodian visiting professors, as well as a general overview of 
contemporary Southeast Asian history and discussion on the issues and problems 
in the study of comparative Southeast Asian contemporary History by the course 
coordinator, Dr. Francis A. Gealogo of the Ateneo.  

Schedule:  April 20 – May 31, 2005, 10:30-12:00nn
Venue:  Ateneo de Manila University, Loyola Heights campus
Registration:  Php 3,000, inclusive of the certificate of participation.  
Reservations are now being accepted.  Checks may be made payable to the Ateneo 
de Manila University.

Students who want to take the course for credit should register during the 
regular registration period of the University (17-19 April 2006) and will pay 
the regular tuition fee instead of the seminar fee.
