Dr Patrick Riordan SJ is an Irish Jesuit now working in London where he is
Associate Director of the Heythrop Institute for Religion, Ethics and
Public Life. He teaches political philosophy at Heythrop College,
University of London. His main areas of research are Religion in Public
Life, Citizenship, and the Common Good. His publications include
Philosophical Perspectives on People Power (Naga, Philippines, 2001), and
A Politics of the Common Good (Dublin, 1996). Recent articles deal with
Civil Society, Citizenship, and the possibility of religious discourse in
liberal politics and Democracy. He has been involved in dialogue with
Shi'a Islam through conferences organized by Heythrop College's Centre
for Inter-religious Dialogue. He visited Teheran in January 2006, and
presented a paper on religious liberty. The relationship between religion
and politics is a central concern of his in the ongoing dialogue. This is
his fifth visit to the Philippines.
