Asia-Pacific Leadership Program (APLP)
The East-West Center is an internationally recognized organization based in Honolulu, Hawaii, established by the U.S. Congress to strengthen understanding and relations between the United States and the nations of Asia and the Pacific through cooperative study, education, and research.
The Asia Pacific Leadership Program (APLP) is the center of excellence for leadership education in the Asia Pacific Region. The APLP is a graduate certificate program combining the development of regional expertise with the enhancement of individual leadership capacity. The APLP empowers future leaders with the knowledge, skills, experiences, and supportive community needed to successfully navigate personal and regional change in the 21st century. The interdisciplinary curriculum equips participants to become agents of change in Asia and the Pacific with an emphasis on applied experiential learning and the development of an alumni network that spans the region.
The coming Fall/Spring program will feature three seminars -- Regional Core Issues, Leadership, and Professional Development -- as well as experiential learning, field studies, group projects, and interships. APLP participants may select a five- or nine-month course of study and if qualified may enroll in elective graduate courses at the University of Hawaii or take internships in the second semester of the program.
A limited number of East-West Center funding opportunities are available. These awards are extremely competitive and require a separate essay question found on the application form, as well as a financial disclosure form found on the APLP website. Priority is usually given to applicants from developing countries in the Asia Pacific region.
APLP invites applications from early to mid-career professionals, currently enrolled graduate students, and recent university graduates. Application deadline for the fall/spring program is February 15, 2007. For more information and application materials, please visit http://www.eastwestcenter.org/aplp.
