Ateneo team is among the best Java programmers in the World

The Ateneo Team "Linden BoyZ" bagged 6th place in the IBM Java Challenge
during the 2006 World
Finals of the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC)held
April 11 in San Antonio, Texas, USA.

The Ateneo contingent to the ACM ICPC consists of students Allan
Espinosa, Mark Punzalan, Christopher Rigor, and faculty members Dr.
Pablo Manalastas and Dr. John Paul Vergara as coaches, and Dr. Rafael
Saldana as Regional Contest Director for Asia-Manila.

The first place in the IBM Java Challenge went to KTH - Royal
Institute of Technology (Sweden). The Ateneo team Linden BoyZ beat the
other top universities participating in the Java Challenge portion of
the 2006 ACM ICPC World Finals including Massachussets Institute of
Technology (MIT), California Institute of Technology (CIT), and
Princeton University.

The most talented students of computing, from all corners of the
world, came to San Antonio, Texas for the 30th annual World Finals of
the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) International Collegiate
Programming Contest, April 9-13, 2006. The ICPC is the world's most
prestigious university competition in computing sciences and engineering.

More than 5,600 teams representing 1,733 universities from 84
countries on 6 continents participated in regional contests held from
October to December 2005. The top 83 teams have qualified for
positions at the 2006 ACM-ICPC World Finals championships.

Ateneo de Manila University is the only university from the
Philippines that have qualified to the World Finals in 30-year history
of the ACM ICPC. In fact, Ateneo de Manila University has qualified to
the World finals two years in a row: 2005 (held in Shanghai, China)
and 2006 (held in San Antonio, Texas, USA).
