Social Sciences Conference Room 3 and 4
Ateneo de Manila University
The Ateneo Development Studies Program is conducting a Training on Delinquency Management for Microfinance Institutions from December 8 to 10, 2005 at the Ateneo de Manila University. The training aims to provide practical and immediately applicable tools that lead to better institutional policies for and operations management of Microfinance institutions.
The course enables participants to understand delinquency by tracing its causes and costs. It offers various perspectives on delinquency from the vantage point of the borrowers and the microfinance institution. Participants will also be taught how to measure delinquency using international standards. The course prescribes report formats integrated in the MFI's information system to track important information for decision-making.
The delinquency management course emphasizes both preventive and curative strategies. Preventive delinquency management strategies include financial shields or prudent financial management practices; growth strategy; and delinquency prevention techniques in microfinance methodologies. Curative delinquency management strategies include loan classification and prioritizing delinquency management measures; remedial management and litigation; crafting incentives systems to reduce delinquency; establishing the delinquency task force; loan administration strategies for delinquency management; and crafting a delinquency management plan. One of the highlights of the course is a discussion of the principles and methods of collection.
Delinquency Management is one of the trainings being offered as part of the Ateneo Development Studies Microfinance Capacity Building Services.
