COMMUNICATION AS COMMUNION
Social Communication Seminar
September 9-10, 2005

Rationale:

Communication is an essential need for every church member and especially every church leader. It is not only one sector of the Church's activities but it is central to all apostolates in the church.

In a world where communication is, in a growing way, unifying humanity and turning it into what is known as a Global Village, it is important that Church Leaders receive sufficient Communication Formation to be able to critically assess, evaluate and use the modern means of communication especially the Mass Media and New Technologies

Every Diocese must have a Pastoral Plan for Communication, which includes also the communication dimension for every Ministry of the Diocese. Such a Pastoral Plan is to incarnate the prophetic, proclaiming mission of the Church in a media-shaped and media-conscious society. (FABC Documents)

Avery Dulles, a noted theologian, says that the Church is communication because it is a communion. It is through Communication that Communion is achieved. The Church exists to bring people into communion with God and with one another. This in its very nature is a communicator's task.
