JSPS RONPAKU Program for JFY 2006

The application period for the JSPS RONPAKU (Dissertation Ph.D.) Program for
JFY 2006 is now open. The program aims to provide tutorial and financial
support to promising researchers in Asia who wish to obtain their Ph.D.
degrees from Japanese universities through the submission of a dissertation
without going through the regular course work. Grantees of the Program are
allowed to visit Japan once a year, for a maximum period of five years, to
conduct their dissertation research under the joint supervision of a
Japanese advisor who in turn visits the Philippines, whenever necessary to
supervise the fellow's research together with the Home advisor.

A RONPAKU applicant must be a researcher who:
1. has not obtained a Ph.D. degree from a Japanese university
2. wishes to obtain a Ph.D. degree from a Japanese university through the
submission of a dissertation
3. has already achieved substantial research results, and is likely through
dissertation research under the Program to successfully obtain a Ph.D.
degree

research institution in the Philippines or will likely be appointed to such
a position by 1 April 2006

It is essential, however, that an applicant first identifies a prospective

lecturer who teaches in a doctoral program of either a national, public, or
private university in Japan. Furthermore, an applicant must check with
his/her proposed advisor the deadline of their university in accepting
RONPAKU applications as the Japanese advisor via the host institution will
