"A group of businessmen and Catholic bishops on Friday gave President 
Arroyo until her State of the Nation Address on July 25 to form a truth 
commission to determine if she had indeed violated public trust amid 
accusations of electoral fraud against her."

"The best scenario is for the President to issue an Executive Order and 
ask Congress to strengthen this order by giving the commission subpoena 
powers," said Ricardo Pascua, national co-chairman of the Bishops and 
Businessmen Conference for Human Development."

"Sen. Loi Estrada and San Juan Mayor JV Ejercito on Friday vowed to 
resign from their post if the recording produced by Ilocos Sur Governor 
Luis "Chavit" Singson linking former President Joseph Estrada to alleged 
plot to unseat President Arroyo is proven authentic.  "Magre-resign ako 
kapag napatunayan lahat ang pinagsasabi nila (I'll resign if their 
allegations are proven true)," Loi said in a radio interview referring 
to Singson's so-called X-Tapes."

to do the same."

*Bishops-Businessmen's Conference bat for truth commission (inq7.net)**

"THE Bishops'-Businessmen's Conference on Friday urged President Gloria 
Macapagal-Arroyo to establish a "truth commission" aimed at settling the 
current political crisis.

In a press conference at the Manila Polo Club, the group suggested that 
the following could compose the commission: Christian Monsod, Isagani 
Cruz, Michael Mastura, Joaquin Bernas, Ramon Farolan, Randy David, and 
Romeo Capulong.

The group said the commission must look into allegations that Arroyo 
took advantage of her office as president to alter the results of the 
2004 presidential elections and that the Commission on Elections 
committed systematic fraud during the 2004 elections.

It also wants the commission to determine who authorized and executed 
the wiretaps."

The composite index closed up 17.62 points or 0.94 percent to 1,897.08 
on 729. 4 million shares worth 2.3 billion pesos. It traded between 
1,879.46 and 1,899.99 points**

As of 4:00 pm July 15, 2005, the exchange closed at Php 55.88 per US dollar.
