SUBJECT	:	Blood Donation Activity on 13 July 2005

The Office of the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, in cooperation with
Lingap para sa Kalusugan ng Sanlibutan (LIKAS) and in partnership with
the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI), has embarked on a
project to intensify efforts in promoting the Voluntary Blood Donation
Program of the Department of Health (DOH).

According to the DOH, blood donation is low during this time where 84% of
hospital blood banks bleed less than 5 donors a day and PNRC blood
centers bleed less than 10 donors a day.

Blood donation, as described by the Webblood Bank.org2 is 100% safe and
does not cause any ill effects on the human body. The total amount of
blood circulating in our body's cardiovascular system is about 5 liters.
Of this amount, only about 350 ml. is bled from the body during blood
donation. The human body replenishes this amount of blood donated within
about 48 to 72 hours of donation. Thus there is no harmful effect to
health due to blood donation...

Your voluntary contribution of blood to the blood bank will save more
lives than you can imagine. Whenever you donate a unit of blood, you
will receive a certificate and a Blood Donation Card. The card can be
used (by you) to get blood from the registered blood bank when you have a
need. of To date, many members of the Ateneo community, including their
relatives, have benefited from this.

The Blood Donation Activity is scheduled on Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at
the Gonzaga Building 2nd Floor Function Room A from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

We hope to see you there.
