RE: CHANGE OF OFFICE NAME TO
OFFICE OF UNIVERSITY DEVELOPMENT & ALUMNI RELATIONS
CHANGES IN ALUMNI E-MAIL BROADCAST
In the 5 February 2005 meeting of the University’s Board of Trustees,
the change of name of the office from the Office of Planning and
Development & Alumni Affairs to the Office of University Development &
Alumni Relations (OUD&AR) was approved. The removing of the term
planning from the name of the office better reflects the actual
situation where the planning function is really initiated and
coordinated by the Office of the President in cooperation with the
different units of the University. The shift from alumni affairs to
alumni relations also more accurately reflects the desire and hope of
the University to nurture better and more meaningful relations with its
alumni, whom the University considers as one of its important members.
I also wish to announce that starting 15 February 2005 the following
changes in the alumni e-mail broadcast will be in effect:
1. The e-mail broadcast will be in newsletter form, but will contain
only summaries, URLs, and special memos from the University
administration. Details of articles, announcements/notices, etc. will
be posted in the appropriate section of the Ateneo de Manila website.
2. The e-mail broadcast will be done only once a week, every Saturday.
In case a Saturday is a University holiday, the broadcast will be made
the working day immediately prior to the holiday. The same policy
applies to the deadline to request inclusion of materials in a
3. All requests for materials that people wish to be included in the
broadcast should be submitted by Thursday noon to Ms. Arlyn Catubig
(acatubig at ateneo.edu). Requests will be reviewed by an editorial board
(cf. #5 below).
4. Only emergency announcements are to be made through the email
broadcast outside the designated day. Emergency announcements are
requests for prayers and/or help for the sick and information about
deceased alumni or their immediate family members. Only extra-ordinary
events, such as calamities or the like, will be considered as
emergencies outside of deaths and illnesses.
5. There will be an editorial board composed of Ms. Hilda K. Abola,
Coordinator for Production, Ms. Sonia R. Araneta, Coordinator for
Communications, Mr. Romeo A. Dalandan, Jr., Director for Alumni
Relations, Mr. Miguel Jose C. Valencia, President of the Ateneo de
Manila Alumni Association, and myself. The editorial board reserves the
right not to broadcast some materials.
6. The alumni broadcast will also be sent to students, parents,
faculty, and staff of the University who wish to be included in the
list for the alumni email broadcast. Non-alumni who wish to be included
in the broadcast list should send their full name and email address to
Mr. Efren Debulgado (edebulgado at ateneo.edu).
7. This new system will be evaluated after six months.
Thank you for your attention.
Sincerely in our Lord,
Carmelo A. Caluag II, S.J.
