POWER: The 16-hour (from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.) Katipunan grid outage needed to connect the vacuum switch (concrete structure near the creek between Ateneo and Miriam College) is scheduled for Monday, 7 February. Backup power will be provided for the Internet, PABX and street lights during the outage of the Katipunan grid.

Engr. Josephy F. Almosera of the University Physical Plant Office has been appointed Pollution Control Officer effective 1 February 2005 in compliance with Department Administrative Order No. 26, Series 1991 of the DENR. Engr. Almosera is a licensed Mechanical Engineer. He is currently enrolled in a post baccalaureate diploma course in Fire Safety Technology at the University of Makati. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Quezon City Industrial Safety Council, Inc. from 2002 to 2004. Engr. Almosera is the university's liaison with the City Engineer's Office, Bureau of Fire, Energy Regulatory Commission and DENR for Quezon City, Marikina City and Makati City.

WATER: The replacement of the 30-year old asbestos distribution line of Manila Water Company, Inc (MWCI) with a 250 mm PVC pipe is proceeding on schedule. The contractor will excavate the road leading to Gate 3.5 on Sunday, starting at 9:00 p.m., and restore the road and have it ready for use by Monday morning, 7 February. The contractor has committed to do work at night on critical sections that affect traffic, so as not to disturb traffic and operations of the university.

SECURITY: The security forces at the Loyola Heights, APS-Rockwell and APS-Salcedo campuses are undergoing the periodic rotation of personnel. The APS-Salcedo campus now has a new set of guards ( please see http://www.admu.edu.ph/upp/sections/leopard-aps.htm ). APS-Rockwell will gradually rotate guards starting this month. The Loyola Heights campus has a new Detachment Commander effective 1 February (please see http://www.admu.edu.ph/upp/sections/leopard-ls.htm ). The new officers are mandated to improve security, traffic and parking services in the three campuses with efficient and effective guards so as to reduce costs.

Mr. Alfredo Bumagat, Jr., the father of a prep student is commended for honesty for turning over to campus security three pieces of jewelry he found in the upper East carpark last Sunday morning, 30 January. The jewelry found by Mr. Bumagat is believed to be valuable. The found items are now in the custody of the Univ. Physical Plant Office. The owner can claim the items by contacting UPPA via email uppa at admu.edu.ph with the description of the jewelry or call local 4101 to arrange identification of the items.

TRAFFIC: As agreed with the officers of the Loyola-Pansol and Loyola Heights Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (TODA) last 18 January, tricycles with Ateneo gate pass stickers found guilty of endangering the lives of passengers by violating traffic rules (e.g., going against the flow of traffic after exiting at Gate 3.5) will be banned from campus starting 24 January. On Monday, 24 January, seven tricycles were found guilty of endangering lives of their passengers. The following have been banned from campus:

Loyola-Pansol TODA (Green) with body numbers: 224, 182, 192 and 114.

Loyola-Heights TODA (White) with body numbers: 158, 177, 138

A LS coed reported a LHTODA (White 080) tricycle speeding along Katipunan last 31 January causing her to nearly fall out of the tricycle. This tricycle has been penalized and suspended for a week starting 31 January.

So far, it has been observed that tricycles now follow traffic rules when with passengers from the Ateneo community. The campaign to have tricycles observe traffic rules is ongoing. Please report tricycles drivers who violate traffic rules, via email to uppa at admu.edu.ph indicating the date and time, and body number and color of the tricycles.

Please email comments to uppa at admu.edu.ph
