 SITUATION REPORT
(Thursday, 21 April 2005)
 
POWER:  Upgrading of the Loyola Heights power infrastructure requires the following power outages.  
 
Barangka Grid
Date:                           24 April 2005
Time:                           8:00 to 10:00 a.m.
 
Units affected are: LST, LHS, AIR, CEFAM, Sonolux, Cervini, Eliazo, Pollock & Allingal Hall.  There will also be short power interruption at 8:00 a.m. at the Jesuit Residence, High School complex, EAPI and the Moro Lorenzo Sports Center.
 
The power outage is necessary to replace two rotten wooden poles with concrete poles carrying the high-tension cables of the Barangka grid.  The remaining 13 defective wooden poles will also be replaced this summer.
 
Katipunan Grid
Date:                           24 April 2005
Time:                           1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
 
Units affected are:  De la Costa Hall and Social Science Building.  The outage is needed to load test the 250 KVA generator of the two buildings.  
 
COMMUNICATION:  CNG is upgrading the campus Internet backbone and excavation work that will cut across Fr. Masterson Drive is needed.  This will be done this summer without disrupting campus traffic.
 
WATER:  Manila Water Company, Inc (MWCI) has completed installation of the 250 mm PVC distribution line.  Connection of service lines to the different units from the distribution line is ongoing.  The table below shows the status of work as of 20 April 2005:

SECURITY:  There are eleven contractors with close to 500 workers doing major improvement and construction projects.  Construction workers are required to wear uniform and ID on campus.  
 
TRAFFIC:  Campus security recorded nine accidents along Katipunan in the last two weeks resulting in serious damage to vehicles but slight injuries to drivers and passengers.  Speeding emerged as the major cause of accidents along Katipunan.  Shown below is one of the three vehicles involved in an accident last Saturday, 9 April that damaged several panels of Ateneo's cyclone wire fence past Gate 3 towards UP.

The University Physical Plant personnel will undergo their annual field exercise this Friday and Saturday BUT offices will be open and work will continue.
