     In line with its thrust this year of sharing its vision with other 
colleges and universities, Pathways to Higher Education will be holding the 
1st Pathways National Youth Conference from April 14-16,2004 at the SEC 
Escaler Hall. Student leaders and Student Affairs Administrators from 30 
colleges and universities nationwide will be participating in this said event. 
Some of the colleges and universities who have confirmed their participation 
include: Assumption College, UA&P, DLSU, UST, PUP, PNU, St. Louis University-
Baguio,Ateneo de Naga, Benguet State University, Bulacan State University, 
West Visayas State University. De La Salle-Lipa, Univ. of San Carlos, Siliman 
Univ., Ateneo de Davao, Xavier University, Notre Dame of Marbel, Notre Dame of 
Dadiangas and Ateneo de Zamboanga. 

     The first two days of the conference will focus on briefing the 
participants regarding the current situation of basic education and higher 
education in our country along with discussions concerning the vision of 
Pathways here in the Philippines and worldwide. The topics and speakers for 
the first two days are as follows:

    Day 1 (Morning Session)

    a.) State of Basic Education in the Philippines
        Speaker: Hon. Edilberto De Jesus, Secretary of Education

    b.) State of Higher Education in the Philippines
        Speaker: Dr. Editha Tan, Professor, UP School of Economics

    Day 2 (Morning Session)

    a.) Best Practices of Local Governments in Education Reform
        Speakers: Hon. Josefina Dela Cruz, Governor, Bulacan
                  Hon. Ma. Lourdes Fernando, Mayor, Marikina City
                  Hon. Jesse Robredo, Mayor, Naga City

    b.) The Vision of the Worldwide Pathways Movement
        Speaker: Dr. Milwida Guevara, President & CEO, Synergeia Foundation

    c.) Pathways in the Philippines
        Speaker: Harvey S. Keh, Director, Pathways to Higher Education

     On the third day, the Pathways Small Grants Competition will be launched. 
This small grants competition will allow the different colleges and 
universities to compete for a P 30,000-P 50,000 grant that would enable them 
to start up Pathways projects and activities in their own communities. Dr. 
Solita "Winnie" Monsod of the UP School of Economics will chair the board of 
judges for this small grants competition.
