Ateneo Lecture on Books of the 20th Century
The Department of English of the Ateneo de Manila University is
offering a lecture this summer 2004 on the "Books of the 20th
Century." It will feature 10 most distinguished selections of the 20th
century. These include the following: the poems of Rainer Maria Rilke,
T.S. Eliot, and Pablo Neruda, Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf, The Stranger
by Albert Camus, Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov, Midnight's Children by Salman
Rushdie, Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett, selections from Labyrinths by
Jorge Luis Borges, and selections from Ulysses by James Joyce.
The course allows for a more in-depth and critical look of the
books. It will also look at the major literary movements and issues of the
20th century. The seminar-lecture will be conducted by Mr. Maximino Pulan, Jr.
The lecture will be held from 14 April to 26 May 2004 at CTC
106, Monday to Friday, at 1:30-3:00; 3:00-4:30 P.M.
Fee: Php- 1,750.00 (given to outsiders for audit)
Those who wish to enroll for 3 unit credit may enroll in Lit 291.3 (grad)
or Lit 191.3 (undergrad)
