4th QUARTER STATUS REPORT

(Monday, 1 March 2004)

POWER: March is Fire Safety Month. It is a good time to dispose of dead files, unserviceable equipment and furniture that are beyond repair.

The power feeder lines and circuit breakers at Kotska and Xavier Halls are being upgraded. At the Jesuit Residence, the in-house wiring will be inspected when the roof is repaired. The main feeder line will also be modified to accommodate the installation of a water heater, additional lights and outlets for the infirmary. A manual transfer switch for emergency power will also be installed for the High School ITC, Library and Faculty Workroom.

At the Ateneo Professional Schools in Salcedo, the limit switch of the generator's automatic transfer switch (ATS) is being realigned. The ATS fuse is also being replaced. Repair of the fire pump is ongoing.

Meralco has scheduled a power outage in the Katipunan grid tomorrow, 2 March from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. of Wednesday, 3 March. Due to the requirements of the Jesuit Residence Infirmary and the EAPI, these two units will be shifted to the Barangka grid during the outage.

COMMUNICATION: The use of the Blueboard for internal communication doubled this year. There are also more postings from the Ateneo Professional Schools.

The High School and Grade School are encouraged to post their activities in the Blueboard, particularly those that affect campus traffic and parking.

A new feature will be added starting April. A weekly calendar of activities (similar to AMPC's menu for the week postings) will be posted in the Blueboard. This is to alert the community of traffic and parking situation on a given day. The Central Switchboard will call units every Friday for their activities for the following week. This will then be collated and posted on Saturday afternoon.

ADMUINFO Mobile Information Service an information services will also be implemented in April so the community can access Ateneo-related information such as no-class announcements, class schedules, event schedules, breaking news, and other information through the convenience of their mobile phones.

To check for any no-class announcements for the current day, simply text: ADMUINFO NOCLASS to 352 on Smart and Talk&Text (lowercase letters are also acceptable).

To check for no-class announcements on a future date, simply text: ADMUINFO NOCLASS MMDDYY to 352 on Smart and Talk&Text. (For example, text: ADMUINFO NOCLASS 020304 to check for no-class announcements on Feb. 3, 2004). This service is available to Smart and Talk&Text subscribers. The charge for each use is P2.50.

WATER: The advisory to conserve water is still on. The closing of gate valves has been effective in reducing leaks on campus.

TRAFFIC: There have been five accidents in Katipunan since MMDA implemented the U-turn scheme last 2 February. Four accidents involved vehicles making the U-turn and one accident involved a vehicle hitting the concrete barrier. In the same period, eight accidents occurred on campus. In general, motorists' disregard of traffic rules appears to be the main cause of accidents on and off campus.

Pedestrians prefer to cross Katipunan in front of Gate 3 rather than at the pedestrian crossover near Gate 2. To reduce risks to pedestrians, two measures have been taken:

1. MMDA has been requested to put up another pedestrian crossover near to Gate 3.

2. Traffic enforcers have been asked to assist pedestrians cross Katipunan on:

Monday to Friday: 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. (starting 27 February)

Saturdays: 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The arrangement with traffic enforcers is good only for class days.

On Sundays and holidays, pedestrians are advised to take the pedestrian cross over near Gate 2. Commuters should seriously consider getting off and getting rides near the Gate 2 pedestrian crossover. The area has adequate space for a PUV stop. It is safer and does not obstruct traffic.

The theme for next school year's gate pass sticker is the 145th anniversary of Ateneo. Below is the recommended design of the Planning and Development Office for the sticker.

The colors assigned to the different units (i.e., Blue for Loyola Schools) will be reflected in these stickers.

SECURITY: Police Superintendent Dante B Narag of Precinct 9 provided the pictures of two men who were apprehended last 18 February. The two suspects held up five passengers of a jeep from Antipolo to Cubao at the Katipunan-Aurora Boulevard junction. Fortunately policemen were in the area to apprehend them. The cash and four cellular phones taken from the passengers were recovered. Anybody on campus who may have been robbed by these men is requested to file charges at Precinct 9.

Losses in offices have been minimized because of security measures instituted by offices and school units. Office occupants keep bags inside drawers and not on top of tables. Cash and other valuables are no longer kept inside office table drawers but are brought home or deposited in a safe. Losses among students have also decreased.

PARKING: The number of unlocked cars found in carparks on school days is not decreasing. Found unlocked last week were:
