As the exhibition "Virgillio Aviado: Autoretrato, Selected Graphic Works
1950-1990" draws to a close, the Ateneo Art Gallery takes pride in
presenting  Ms. Ambie Abaño, who will do a lecture/demonstration on basic
printmaking techniques. As part of her presentation, she will also be
showing original works by Filipino printmakers from her private
collection, and show segments ofthe Travel Time episode "Vitality Upon

An architect turned visual artist, Ambie Abaño has mounted eight solo
exhibitions in the Philippines and the United States. She has taken up a
wide range of art related courses in the arts, the latest being
Lithography classes at the Blackburn Printmaking Workshop in New York
City (2000-2001).  She is pursuing a Masters Degree in Fine Arts at the
University of the Philippines while teaching at the Institute of Fine
Arts and Design at the Philippine Women's University.  She has
participated in over sixty group shows all over the Philippines and
abroad , the most recent, Alliance en Resonance, a major Philippine Art
and Culture Event at the Alliance Francaise de Paris organized in
cooperation with Alliance Francaise de Manille.  She has joined national
and international art competitions (representing the Philippines in the
6th Triennale Mondiale de l'estampe petit format Chamalieres 2003 in
France).  Among the awards she garnered includes a 'Grand Prize' in
painting category in the AAP Open Art Competition (1987),  'Finalist' at
the Philip Morris Philippine Art Awards (1998), and Bantay Kalikasan Save
the La Mesa Dam Art Competition (print category, 2003).  She is an active
member and officer of the Philippine Association of Printmakers and is
currently the Secretary of the Committee on Visual Arts of National
Commission for Culture and the Arts. She has given printmaking
lecture/workshops to artists in Bacolod, Palawan, Dumaguete, and and
other institutions in Metro Manila (Ateneo de Manila University, St.
Scholastica's College, University of Santo Tomas, and La Salle, 

Now on its 23rd edition, ArtSpeak is an integral part of the Ateneo Art
Gallery's outreach program. It remains free of charge, and is open to the
public. Advanced booking is recommended, as seats are limited. For more

The Ateneo Art Gallery is located at the Ground Floor, Rizal Library,
Ateneo de Manila University, Loyola Heights, Quezon City. Museum hours:
8 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday; 8 am to 12 nn, Saturday; Closed on
Sundays and holidays.
