[Blueboard] Ben Anderson's "The Spectre of Comparisons"

The Philippine edition of Benedict Anderson's "The Spectre of Comparisons:
Nationalism, Southeast Asia, and the World" will be launched on January 27,
2004, 4.30 to 6.30 pm, at the Social Development Complex Conference Hall,
Ateneo de Manila University, Loyola Heights, Quezon City.
"Spectre of Comparisons" contains essays on the development of nationalism and
identity in Southeast Asia, specifically Thailand, East Timor, and the
Philippines. In particular, the book includes "Cacique Democracy in the
Philippines," as well as detailed studies of Rizal and his novels in the essays
"The First Filipino" and "Hard to Imagine."
The highlight of the launch is a lecture by Prof. Anderson on "The Noli
Quantified: Reflections on the Origins of Rizalian Nationalism." Prof. Ambeth
Ocampo, chair of the National Historical Institute, is discussant.
This lecture-launch is being jointly organized and presented by the Ateneo de
Manila University's Office of the Dean-School of Social Sciences, History
Department, Institute of Philippine Culture, Kritika Kultura

"Spectre of Comparisons" will soon be available in good bookstores nationwide
