You are warmly invited to the launching of Soledad S. Reyes's "Rosario de
Guzman-Lingat (1924-1997): The Burden of Self and History," on Friday, October
10, 2003, 4.30 pm, at the H. de la Costa Conference Room, ADMU campus, Loyola
Heights.

Rosario de Guzman-Lingat was a prolific though understudied writer who produced
novels, short stories, and essays. She commanded a huge following among readers
of Liwayway and komiks magazines, especially in the 1960s and 1970s.

Through tireless research, Dr. Reyes has singlehandedly brought Lingat and her
works to the consciousness of today's reading public and literary critics. Her
critical biography is based on a close reading of Lingat's own works as well as
of Lingat's colorful life. Dr. Reyes proves that Lingat did not need a room of
her own to produce her creative work.

The other two collections to be launched---Lingat's "Dalawang Nobela: Ang
Balabal ng Diyos/Ang Silid ng Makasalanan," at "Sa Bukang-Liwayway ng
Kalayaan at iba pang Kuwento" ---are further proofs of Lingat's ability to
engage historical reality and personal trials in her works which enlightened
and enthralled at the same time.

The books will be sold at a launching price and may be ordered through the
Ateneo Press (02-426-5984; unipress at admu.edu.ph), Popular Bookstore (02-
372-2162), Solidaridad (02-523-0870), and Powerbooks (02-844-4455).
