The Ateneo Wellness Center—a Center affiliated with the Ateneo Department of 
Psychology that provides research, training and counseling services for 
individuals, couples, families and groups—announces its line-up of workshops 
for the summer of 2003.  These courses will be held at AWC’s facilities in 
Alingal Hall, Ateneo de Manila University campus, Loyola Heights, Quezon City, 
unless otherwise specified.

Playing for Real: Play Therapy for Professionals Who Work with Children
     This certificate workshop, to be conducted by the AWC play therapy team 
headed by psychotherapist Tom Batalla, is intended for “helping professionals” 
who want to expand their repertoire of interventions in helping children with 
emotional/behavioral problems and developmental delays. They will receive hands-
on coaching and guidance during actual play therapy sessions.  Detailed 
processing of the therapeutic play session (“clinic-ing”) will be done after 
each session in order to maximize participants’ learnings. Number of 
participants will be limited to twelve.  Each participant may bring the child 
he/she wants to interact with during the play therapy sessions.

Expressive Pottery for Adults
     Psychologist Sandra Ebrada will hold eight 3-hour sessions wherein 
participants can access their creative inner child through the medium of terra-
cotta pottery.  Basic hand-building techniques are taught in the first few 
sessions after which the participants will be able to express themselves 
freely, using pottery to deepen their understanding of the Self.  It’s also 
relaxing and lots of fun!

Dates:  		April 30, May 2, 7, 9, 14, 16 and 21  (4-7pm MW)
Workshop Fee: 		P 3,500.00/participant (basic materials such 
as                      clay, instruments, firing of pieces & workbook

Journeying with Survivors of Trauma
     This 2-day workshop is designed to provide participants a framework for 
understanding the inner worlds of child, adolescent and adult trauma 
survivors.  Participants will be guided into understanding the antecedent 
factors to trauma and recognizing its symptoms as well as the resiliency 
factors that allow survivors to recover.  It will help participants to 
understand competently and address effectively the behaviors of trauma 
survivors in different developmental stages.  Those who are expected to benefit 
from this workshop are counselors, social workers, NGO workers, psychologists, 
teachers and other paraprofessionals.  Kathleen N. Puente, a U.S. certified 
clinician in EMD will conduct the workshop.
