TO ALL DEPARTMENT CHAIRS AND FACULTY MEMBERS:
RE: GOBI (Global Online Bibliographic Information)
The GOBI or Global Online Bibliographic Information by YBP, a Baker and
Taylor Company provides an online bibliographic database to more than 2
million English language titles from North America, UK. They also offer
wide range of services to customers like acquisition, collection
development and cataloging support with ready access to querying,
selection, ordering and reporting functions online.
Unlike other online book service agents, YBP shoulders all shipping and
handling expenses. Also, orders are not pre-paid. Book deliveries are done
through door-to-door delivery via UPS. They also accept rush orders that
can ship within 48 hours provided that the ordered item is in their
warehouse. Normal shipments usually take 3-4 weeks for delivery.
Their website provides three level of security. They provide three
passwords to customers. One password is for read-only which is good for
searching titles. The second one is for searching and tagging items in the
database that can be consolidated afterwards, and the third one is for
ordering books online.
YBP offers several value-added services like:
A. Customer Profiles:
This is very helpful in selecting books for purchase. YBP selects book
titles that they send to faculty members via email.
B. They provide monthly newsletters containing selected, notable book
titles. This newsletter is also sent via email.
C. ACADEMIA- an online magazine newsletter containing book reviews on
several subject fields highly recommended by their in-house profiling
In line with this, we are giving you a set of password and username that
will enable to search GOBI online. Please see details below:
