ArtSpeak, the Ateneo Art Gallery's monthly series of talks by significant art
practitioners, ends its 2002 program with critic and independent curator Marian
Pastor Roces. The event is co-sponsored by the Ateneo Library of Women's
Writings (ALIWW) and is scheduled on Thursday, 5 December 2002, 4:30 p.m. at
the university art museum’s Main Gallery.

Ms. Pastor Roces's participation in ArtSpeak focuses attention on the career of
one of very few Asians to enjoy an international practice in the fields of
criticism and curatorship. Widely recognized for her theoretical writings on
art and culture, her work has appeared in some of the world's most respected
academic publications and art journals.

Some of Ms. Roces's more recent projects in the Philippines include the Asia
Society travelling exhibition "Sheer Realities: Clothing and Power in
Nineteenth-Century Philippines" at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila, and the
essay "Luna and Hidalgo: Vexed Modernity," which appears in the "Zero-In:
Private Art, Public Lives" tri-museum exhibition catalogue. Her work in the
country also revolves around her leadership of TAO Inc., a corporation
specializing in museum and exhibition projects, cultural assets mapping and
data-basing, public art consultancy and cultural planning.

Admission to ArtSpeak is free and open to the public. Advanced booking is
recommended, as seats are limited. For more information, please contact Yolly
Arambulo at 426-6001, ext. 4160.
