It is with great pride that Jesuit Communications announces another win
by the film BATINGAW, this time in an international festival. It was
declared Best Documentary at the 24th Festival International du Film
Independant in Brussels.

It was also declared Best Short Film at the local festival Cinemanila
some months back.

BATINGAW follows the journey of a young man, in search of himself and
his place in the world. As he carries the bell that is his burden, he
arrives at what could be called, for all intents and purposes, the end
of the world: the dumpsite of Payatas. As he meets the people of
Payatas, he hears the call of a deeper bell, which is nothing other than
the whisper of his soul. And he discovers that perhaps squalor and
sorrow do not hold sway at the end of the world, that there is light
hidden in the depths of darkness and poverty.

Produced by Jesuit Communications, it is directed and edited by Lawrence
Cordero (a high school 1985 and college 1989 alumnus of Ateneo), with
music by Arnel dC Aquino, SJ and cinematography by Bahaghari. The
script was written by Froi Medina, narrated by Nono Alfonso, SJ and
features Francis Alvarez, SJ as the young man in search of his soul.

This award validates the film's success in delivering a powerful and
meaningful message to its audience. Once again, it inspires all of us
at JesCom to strive all the more to achieve our mission of evangelizing
through the good use of media.
