The UP Institute of Creative Writing, together with
the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA)
and the Ateneo Institute of Literary Arts and
Practices (AILAP), will hold a forum on the role of
the editor/anthologist in the formation of the
Philippine literary canon on November 20, 430-600
p.m., at the SEC Lecture Hall 2 of the Ateneo de
Manila University.

Entitled "Ang Papel ng Editor/Antolohista sa Pagbubuo
ng Kanon," the forum will tackle the sensitive task of
selecting works for inclusion in various anthologies
of the best writings. It aims to clarify the basis of
selection and the politics, if ever there is one, that
affects the task of the editor. Featured speakers are
Dr. Gemino Abad, poet and editor of A Native Clearing
and a Habit of Shores: Filipino Poetry from English,
60's to the 90's; critic Dr. Isagani R. Cruz of The
100 Best Philippine Short Stories fame, and Dr. Lilia
Quindoza Santiago, renowned feminist scholar and
writetr, who authored Sa Ngalan ng Ina: 100 Taon ng
Tula ng Kababaihan.

The forum is part of the Critics' Circuit program of
the UP ICW under the auspices of the NCCA. It seeks
to address theliterary community's need for critics to
survey and study the various creative writing works
produced in the country today by providing venues for
critical discussion.
