The Interdisciplinary Studies Department will offer the following elective
in the first semester of 2002-2003:

IS 163.8 - Contemporary Issues: Science and Religion

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:00-4:30, K304 

M.A. Cuyegkeng, J.M. Francisco, SJ, D. McNamara, SJ

This 3-unit course will address the impact of science and technology 
on the practice of our faith in the 21st Century.  It will begin with 
a discussion of different ways of knowing and the frameworks being 
used by science, theology, and philosophy.  Issues will then be 
presented, considering current scientific work as well as theological 
and philosophical debate.  There will be invited lecturers from 
various disciplines.  Key issues include Creation, Human Life and 
Personhood, the Population Question, and Energy and Lifestyle.  The 
course will draw largely on Christian religious traditions, keeping 
in mind current developments in Filipino Christian theology.  

Pre-requisites for non-science majors: Sc10, Th121, Ph 101
Pre-requisites for science majors 20 units of sci/math, Th121, Ph101
