Summer Workshops Offered by the Ateneo Wellness Center

The Ateneo Wellness Center—a Center that provides research, training and 
counseling services for individuals, couples, families and groups—announces its 
line-up of workshops for the summer of 2002.  These courses will be held at 
AWC’s facilities in Alingal Hall, Ateneo de Manila University campus, Loyola 
Heights, Quezon City, unless otherwise specified.

The Professional Enhancement Series: Playing for Real: Play Therapy for 
Professionals Who Work with Children

This certificate workshop, to be conducted by the AWC play therapy team headed 
by psychotherapist Tom Batalla, is intended for “helping professionals” who 
want to expand their repertoire of interventions in helping children with 
emotional/behavioral problems and  developmental delays. They will receive 
hands-on coaching and guidance during actual play therapy sessions.  Detailed 
processing of the therapeutic play session (“clinic-ing”) will be done after 
each session in order to maximize participants’ learnings.
Number of participants will be limited to ten.  Each participant may bring the 
child he/she wants to interact with during the play therapy sessions.

Dates: April 16 (half-day), April 18, 23, 25, 30 and May 2 (whole day).
Workshop Fee:  P6,000.00 per participant

The Professional Enhancement Series:  Introducing Neuro-Linguistic Programming

The Stress Management Series: Expressive Pottery for Adults

Psychologist Arsenio “Boboy” Alianan will hold eight 3-hour sessions wherein 
participants can access their creative inner child through the medium of terra-
cotta pottery.  Basic hand-building techniques are taught in the first few 
sessions after which the participants will be able to express themselves 
freely, using pottery to deepen their understanding of the Self.  It’s also 
relaxing and lots of fun!

Dates:  April 16, 18, 23, 25, 30, May 2, 7, 9 (5:30-8:30 p.m. TTh)
Workshop Fee:  P3,500.00 (basic materials and snacks included)

The Parent Empowerment Series: Helping Children Through the Maze of 
Parental Separation

Psychologist Judith Royo will run a group that will help parents know how they 
can minimize/lessen the negative impact of parental separation on their 
What kind of children’s reactions need professional attention?  How can parents 
discover what their children’s needs are and how can they respond appropriately 
and in a proactive manner? These and other similar questions will be answered 
and discussed in the group.

Dates:  May 25 and June 1 (Saturdays, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.)
