COMMUNICATION: ADMUINFO Mobile Information Service in cooperation with Ateneo Java Wireless Center has been improved. Arrangements are being made to include major service providers. This service should be active by mid-June.

As in previous years, suspension of classes early in the morning will be announced via the PABX auto attendant starting 4:30 a.m.

WATER: Cleaning of cisterns and overhead tanks in the Loyola Heights, Rockwell, and Salcedo campuses are on schedule and will be completed 28 May 2005. Water pressure of Manila Water Company, Inc (MWCI) is adequate to supply the requirements of the campus while the cisterns and overhead tanks are being cleaned. Potability tests will be conducted first week of June.

MWCI excavation work in front of Gate 1 will be completed on 31 May 2005. The area will be restored and ready for use before Grade School classes start on 6 June 2005.

SECURITY: Incidence of theft is expected to increase when registration and classes start this June. The following countermeasures will be taken:

1.. Security guards in civilian clothes will be assigned.
2.. Additional uniformed security guards will be deployed.
3.. School units will be asked to include basic security measures during the orientation of new students such as:

3.1 Vigilance in the care and custody of personal belongings, e.g., don't leave things unattended, lock vehicles when parked etc.

3.2 Be aware of practices employed by con men in perpetuating scams like Salisi, Dugoduguan etc.

3.3 Wearing your ID to distinguish outsiders on campus.

4.. Office personnel will be reminded to keep valuables, e.g. bags, cellular phones and other valuables inside locked table drawers rather than leave them on top of tables that are accessible to visitors and outsiders.
5.. They should also lock their offices when leaving for lunch or when nobody is in the office.

TRAFFIC: Traditionally, traffic is heavy when classes start in June due to:

1. Arrival of new students (2000+ in Loyola Schools, 600+ in the High School and 580+ in the Grade School) and parents not familiar with the traffic scheme inside the campus.

2. Heavy traffic on Katipunan when classes resume in Metro Manila. The schedule of classes and Orientation of Miriam College and Ateneo are shown below:

Classes Start Freshmen Orientation

Ateneo Grade School

Primary School 6 June 6 June

Middle School 7 June 7 June

Ateneo High School 8 June 8 June

Loyola Schools 14 June 7 - 9 June

Miriam Grade School

            Grades 1 - 2 14 June 10 June

            Grades 3 - 7 15 June

Miriam High School

1st Year 14 June 14 June

2nd to 4th Year 15 June

Miriam College 8 June 31 May - 1 June

To manage campus traffic, the following steps will be taken:

1.. Meet with the 2005 Orsem Logistic Committee on 26 May to coordinate the schedule of the three school units.
2.. Meet with Miriam College and MMDA on Monday, 30 May to coordinate traffic arrangements in the two campuses.
3.. Solicit the assistance of the Sanggunian and the Guidon in the information campaign regarding campus traffic and parking arrangements.
4.. Intensify the campaign for the community to get their gate pass sticker early instead of waiting for the end of June. So far, approximately 4,800 stickers have been issued out of the expected 16,000 vehicles entering the campus. Getting and returning a visitor pass at the gates delay ingress and egress on campus.
5.. Field additional guards in the first two weeks of classes to manage traffic and parking on campus.

PARKING: The Upper East carpark and the Northwest carpark will be closed at 6:00 p.m. starting 14 June 2005. There are two reasons for this move:

1. For the safety of students attending evening classes, who will be asked to park their vehicles closer to the buildings.

2. To close these two carparks so they need not be lighted, as part of the energy conservation measures being instituted this year.

MAINTENANCE: To minimize roof leaks and damage to furniture and equipment in offices, laboratories and classrooms, all units are reminded to have roof gutters and downspouts cleaned.
