 Environmental Science for Social Change (ESSC)
The Environmental Science for Social Change, Inc. (ESSC) is a non-stock, non-profit research institution that offers a career for qualified candidates for the following positions:

Human Resource Manager

The qualified applicant will report directly to the Director and work with the management team.  He/She has overall responsibility in the management and supervision of personnel and its related activities in Manila and the regional operations.

Scope of Work:

Implementation of the institutional personnel management system within a context of an institutional awareness and knowledge of the need for constant review and enhancement

Ensuring institutional capacity to maintain appropriately skilled personnel, sound organization structures, and safe and secure working conditions within an institutional work culture amongst staff that is professional yet having a nurturing nature.

Qualification Requirements:

·          College Degree holder with 4-5 years relevant experience.
·          Preferably with Human Resources Development background.
·          Familiar with labor laws and related legal requirements.
·          Proven management experience with competencies in personnel management.
·          Proven skills in assessment, planning and implementation.
·          Good interpersonal skills and the ability to relate and work sensitively with people from a variety of cultural and social backgrounds.
·          Ability to manage multiple priorities and work with deadlines.
·          Ability to work on own initiative to build on and develop the job, combined with the ability to work as part of a team.
·          Fluent in written and spoken English, Visayan and Tagalog.
·          Computer literacy in MS Word and Excel at the minimum.
·          Understanding of current issues in environment, culture and development.
 Project Development Staff

The qualified applicant will report directly to the Planning Manager and coordinate with the management team in ensuring work coherence.  He/She is responsible in initiating and carrying out conceptualization, design, structure and budget formulation of new projects.  

Scope of Work:

Writing project proposals and/or reports in accordance to institutional norms and standards and in compliance with requirements of funding agencies. 

Scanning the market for potential projects and identifying appropriate project opportunities for the institute. 

Qualification Requirements:

·          Development work experience or related socio-cultural or environmental background.
·          Ability to conceptualize and develop project work and activities and package appropriately for agency support.
·          Excellent writing skills with a comprehensive understanding of current issues in environment, culture, and development.
·          Ability to work on own initiative yet with the facility to synthesize ideas from colleagues.
·          Computer literate in MS Word and Excel at the minimum.
Hydrology Specialist

The qualified applicant will be assigned in ESSC-Bohol and will report directly to ESSC-Visayas Program Manager and work with other research team.  He/She has overall responsibility in providing the institutional framework and research design for data gathering/handling and structures the data analysis on various hydro-research activities.

Scope of Work:

Conceptualizing hydro-research frameworks and implementing with accordance to the given time and phase.

Providing analysis on microclimate and hydrological cycle data and strategizing systems for data handling/retrieval for institutional research application.   

Qualification Requirements:

·          Development work experience with MS degree/PhD units in Environmental, Engineering or related Sciences.
·          Ability to conceptualize and develop hydro-research framework and activities.
·          Proven skills in assessment, planning and implementation.
·          Good interpersonal skills and the ability to relate and work sensitively with people from a variety of cultural and social backgrounds.
·          Ability to work on own initiative to build on and develop the job, combined with the ability to work as part of a team.
·          Fluent in written and spoken English, and Visayan or Tagalog.
·          Computer literacy in MS Word and Excel at the minimum.
·          Understanding of current issues in environment, culture and development.
 GIS Research Manager

The qualified applicant will report directly to the Mapping Station Manager and work within mapping/research team.  He/She has overall responsibility in developing and conducting GIS-related trainings and providing assistance in the development of institutional national geographic database.

Scope of Work:

Providing technical support services to ESSC's regional offices.

Conducting technical field surveys for remote sensing in specified ESSC sites using available technological tools such as GPS.

Qualification Requirements:

·          Development work experience with MS degree/units in Environmental, Engineering or related Sciences.
·          Knowledge in GIS software and use of field survey equipment.
·          Ability to conceptualize and implement GIS-related trainings/workshops.
·          Proven skills in assessment, planning and implementation.
·          Good interpersonal skills and the ability to relate and work sensitively with people from a variety of cultural and social backgrounds.
·          Ability to work on own initiative to build on and develop the job, combined with the ability to work as part of a team.
·          Fluent in written and spoken English and Tagalog.
·          Computer literacy in MS Word and Excel at the minimum.
·          Understanding of current issues in environment, culture and development.
 Social/Environmental Researcher

The qualified applicant will report to a Project Manager and work within a project team.  He/She has responsibility in the research, identification and data collection of a finite number of social development indicators for inclusion into a Geographical Information System (GIS).

Qualification Requirements:

·          College degree holder with >3 years development work experience 
·          Strong documentation, analytical, and research skills
·          Preferably familiar and with an understanding of social safeguards in development activities
·          Good interpersonal skills and the ability to relate and work sensitively with people from a variety of cultural and social backgrounds.
·          Ability to work on own initiative to build on and develop the job, combined with the ability to work as part of a team.
·          Fluent in written and spoken English and Tagalog.
·          Computer literacy in MS Word and Excel at the minimum, reasonable command of mapping, land-tenure and GIS would be a distinct advantage.
·          Willing and able to travel frequently for extended periods and to remote ares.
 Candidates must have a genuine interest in social and environmental issues and must be willing to travel to research field sites. The positions offer excellent opportunities for learning environmental management skills and exposure to other organizations. Compensation and benefits shall be commensurate to qualifications.
