                      	 SITUATION REPORT
                         (Monday, 8 October 2001)

POWER:  Trimming of tree branches adjacent to the Barangka grid overhead
high tension cables were completed yesterday.  It could not be done earlier
due to weekend activities, i.e., the groundbreaking ceremonies for the
Church of the Gesu.  

For years, uninterrupted power on campus was associated with JUAN "Johnny"
C. ACIDO.  Johnny took pride in what he did and it showed.  Maintaining
campus power was his way of serving others and he did it well.  He retired
on 24 June 1998 at 60.  Early last Saturday morning, surrounded by friends
Johnny bade farewell after losing the fight with cancer.  On Wednesday
morning he will be buried at the Barangka cemetery after mass at the Ateneo
Housing multi-purpose hall.  Physical Plant personnel will attend the
funeral services.  The community is requested to pray for the repose of
Johnny's soul.  

COMMUNICATION:  The PLDT payphones will be installed in APS-Salcedo in the
next three weeks.

Smart GSM payphones will be installed in the Loyola Heights campus during
the break this October.  GSM payphones will also be installed in
APS-Rockwell and Salcedo shortly after.   

WATER:  Water samples taken from the APS-Salcedo overhead tanks have been
tested and found potable.  The test results released last Friday have been
sent to all the units at APS-Salcedo.  

The ongoing connection of the Moro Lorenzo Sports Center (MLSC) water line
directly to the Manila Water Company (MWC) line will be completed this
week.  The new scheme should improve water supply to MLSC and the High

SECURITY:  The Loyola Schools P.E. Department office was found broken into
yesterday.  The roving guard found an open window at 6:45 p.m. yesterday.
The guards informed the PE Department this morning.  The PE personnel were
requested to check if anything was missing before a report was made to the
police.  To facilitate the investigation, Leopard Security & Investigation
Agency, Ateneo's security agency for APS-Salcedo was requested to assist.
Leopard managed to persuade Precinct 9 to immediately send investigators,
as well as get the PNP fingerprinting unit to look into the case.  The
incident is currently under investigation.

Repair of streetlights and carparks was done yesterday.  Additional
security lights may have to be installed in the college complex during the
semestral break.
