The Ateneo Art Gallery warmly invites you
to a stimulating afternoon of
A R T S P E A K
with Al Manrique
on Wednesday 14 November
4:30 pm at the Print & Drawing Room
ArtSpeak, the Ateneo Art Gallery's continuing series of talks by leading
artists, will feature one of the foremost exponents of digital art in the
Philippines, Alfredo (Al) Manrique, on Wednesday, 14 November 2001 at 4:30
pm. This event is sponsored by Starbucks Coffee. Venue will again be the
Print & Drawing Room of the Gallery.
Now on its third month, ArtSpeak highlights artists represented in the
collection of the country's first modern art museum, as well as Ateneo
faculty members whose disciplines revolve around the fine arts. Gallery
curator Ramon E.S. Lerma sees it as "a new context in which the art public
can engage with the museum critically. It is also one of the ways in which
the Ateneo promotes and supports significant Philippine visual artists,
besides exhibiting their work."
Mr. Manrique is represented in the Gallery by two oils on canvas, "Bunong
Balikat" (1978) and "Pagbibigkis" (1983), two etchings and aquatint,
"Kasamang Magpahayag" and "Pagpanaw ni Ama" (both 1982), and by a series of
thirty-eight monochrome, laser print images bearing *.tif encrypted titles
(1993). He will be making a presentation on new developments in digital
art, situating these within the context of his career.
Admission to ArtSpeak is free and open to the public. Advanced booking is
strongly recommended, as seats are limited.
